In the South of Egypt, Aswan is a bustling market town on the south bank of the Nile.  Aswan is spectacular city, offering visitors options to wander around the city, sail upriver to the Temple of Philae.  In addition to all Aswan has to offer, this city is often the starting point for trips to Abu Simbel.  The northern hills of the west bank (Kubbet al-Hawa meaning “windy dome”) are filled with the rock-hewn tombs of princes from the Old Kingdom to the Roman period.  The Nubian museum in Aswan, which opened in November 1997 displays thousands of antiquities demonstrating Nubain life.  Another option within Aswan is a visit to Kitchener Island – a botanical garden filled with exotic plants and trees imported from all over the world.  Enjoy a lazy afternoon on this stunning island, or venture to Elephantine Island.  read more

Introduction to Egypt

Egyptian culture has a recorded history of seven thousand years and was among the earliest civilizations.

For thousands of years Egypt had a complex and stable culture that later influenced the cultures of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Covering an area of about 1,001,450 square kilometres, Egypt is one of the most populated countries in Africa. The vast majority of its estimated 78 million people live near the banks of the Nile River, meaning that approximately 99% of the population uses only about 5.5% of the total land area.

Approximately 90% of the population adheres to Islam and most of the remainder to Christianity primarily, Coptic Orthodox. Though, Egyptians see themselves, their history, culture and language as specifically Egyptian and not "Arab”. read more
